Data with context
Palestinian Labour Rights Observatory
Palestinian Labour Rights Observatory Data
Explore percentage distributions of labour complaints, reports of alleged labour rights violations and approved field visits across the West Bank and Gaza Strip. These indicators help trade unionists, researchers, and local and international organisations interpret recording patterns, with each percentage’s scope and interpretation limits made clear.

02
Percentages in their geographic context
Explore relative distributions across the West Bank and Gaza Strip by reporting area, record source and issue type.
When no violation type is selected, colours indicate recording intensity relative to the area with the most records for the selected source; this index is not the area’s share of all records. When a type is selected, the colours and badge percentage show that type’s records as a share of all area records for the selected source. The detail popup excludes visits from its violation-classification distribution; its percentages may therefore differ from the colour or badge in the all-source view.
03
Explore patterns in the records
Explore percentage distributions of violation classifications and gender within each dataset’s scope.
Violation types as percentage shares
Each source’s share uses all complaint, report and approved-visit records. In the geographic table, each area’s share uses the source named in that column; the overall share combines all sources. Violation-type percentages use the classifications in complaints and reports combined, or in either source alone, according to the selection. Visit outcomes use approved field visits.
Gender distribution in complaints
Waiting for data…
Gender distribution uses complaint records only.
Field visit outcomes as percentages
The percentages below use approved field visits, according to whether violations were recorded during them.
Visits with recorded violations
—Visits without recorded violations
—Approved field visits
Visit outcomes use approved field visits. No recorded violation during a visit does not establish that a workplace is free of violations.
04
How are percentage shares distributed across areas?
Compare each area’s share within complaints, reports and approved visits, and its share of all sources. Calculation bases differ between columns.
Waiting for data…
The complaint, report and visit columns show each area’s share within that source; the overall share uses all sources combined.
Rounded percentages may not sum to exactly 100%. A percentage is unavailable when its calculation scope contains no records.
05
A guide to reading and using percentages
Six principles help local and international users interpret the results and document their use accurately.
What do the percentages describe?
Percentages describe the composition and distribution of the Observatory’s registered records. They do not necessarily represent shares of distinct people or incidents: more than one record may relate to the same situation.
Check the percentage base
Each source’s share uses all complaint, report and approved-visit records. In the geographic table, each area’s share uses the source named in that column; the overall share combines all sources. Violation-type percentages use the classifications in complaints and reports combined, or in either source alone, according to the selection. Visit outcomes use approved field visits.
Areas are not all governorates
The geographic distribution follows the system’s reporting areas, which include governorates, towns and local areas. An area’s higher share of recorded activity does not, by itself, establish higher violation prevalence.
Gender data covers complaints
Gender percentages use complaint records only. They do not describe the gender distribution of reports, field visits or the workforce as a whole.
Limits of interpretation
These percentages describe system records, not a representative survey of all workers. A zero percentage does not establish the absence of violations. Recording a complaint or report does not establish that the alleged facts are substantiated. A visit without a recorded violation does not establish that a workplace is free of violations.
Retrieval time and reporting period
The displayed time is when the data was retrieved, not the date of the latest record. The source does not specify when the situations occurred; percentages should therefore not be assigned to a month or year without further information.
Indicator definitions
Labour complaints
Records classified in the system as complaints about labour rights or working conditions. Their share describes complaints within the displayed records, not resolved cases or substantiated findings.
Violation reports
Records of situations reported as alleged labour rights violations. Their share describes registered reports; it does not establish that a violation has been substantiated.
Approved field visits
Field visits approved and recorded in the system. Their share is shown among record sources; outcomes show the shares of approved visits with and without recorded violations.

A reference for research and reports
When using percentages in research or a report, include the source, URL, access date, indicator name and the record scope used as its calculation base. For map results, also specify the filters used. Percentages may change as the source is updated.
